Welcome to Mayfield Preparatory School, Walsall

Upper School enjoyed a performance of Hamlet by the Young Shakespeare Company. Pupils were whisked away to Denmark and were part of the cast, providing sound effects and even playing some of the parts! ‘To be or not to be’ was the question!

Mayfield celebrated British Science week last week with a visit from South Staffs Water company providing workshops across the school. Pupils learnt about water conservation, rivers and where water comes from. Pupils were invited to take part in our annual poster competition. This year’s theme was Change and Adapt. Winners were selected from each class with a runner-up and then five overall winners to have their poster entered in the national competition. Well done, to all who took part. Science lessons were based around the theme and fun was had by all!

World Book Day was celebrated by pupils and staff by dressing up as their favourite book characters and taking part in various book related activities. Lower III took Kindergarten on a bear hunt and read with Nursery pupils. Across the school, there were various book activities from scavenger hunts to colouring favourite book characters and book marks. Upper School took part in the Poetry By Heart competition, where pupils learnt to recite and perform two poems; one from before 1914 and one from after 1914. Each class performed their poems in English lessons and then there was a final round with finalists from each class performing in front of the school and a panel of judges. It was a close competition, but the winners from each class were: Inaaya Ahmed from Lower II, Surran Sahota from Form II, Zayn Rasheed from Upper II and two winners from Lower III: Dylan Khera and Sehej Kaur. Well done all and good luck to the finalists who will be videoed performing their poems for entry into the national grand final.
