Head Masters Welcome
For many years, Mayfield has been held in great esteem for providing generations of children with an unrivalled start to their education and is widely regarded as one of the leading Prep schools in the West Midlands.
At Mayfield, our aim is to provide the highest standards of education for our pupils in a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment that allows our children to develop their potential and individuality.
We have a clear vision: to encourage our pupils to fulfil their aspirations in all areas, academic, personal and social, in order to become independent learners and rounded, self-assured individuals who contribute to the wellbeing of the community. At Mayfield, we have high expectations of our pupils and staff and we are constantly challenging ourselves to raise our excellent standards even higher.
At the heart of Mayfield is the pastoral care we provide for our children. There is a close bond and a strong partnership between pupils, Staff, parents and Governors. Our children are taught the values of courtesy, manners and respect for others. Whilst we are proud to uphold Christian traditions, such as a Harvest Festival and Christmas Carol Service, we embrace the different religions and traditions of our local community helping our pupils to thrive in our multi-cultural school.
At Mayfield, children are educated in well-proven, traditional methods by a highly experienced staff of teachers with specialist qualifications across the curriculum. This enables our pupils to consistently attain results far above National and local standards. We fully prepare our children and parents for their next steps, providing highly effective tuition for Senior School Entrance Examinations at 11+ and the majority of our pupils progress to leading selective independent and grammar schools.
Whilst developing the academic ability of our pupils, we also recognise the importance of developing the individual. An integral part of life at Mayfield is Physical Education; our children are taught a wide and varied programme and relish the chance to gain individual achievements in ballet, gymnastics, dance and athletics, as well as given many opportunities to represent school teams in football, netball, rugby, rounders, cricket and cross country events. Our enhanced curriculum includes Speech and Language, which provides opportunities to gain nationally recognised LAMDA qualifications. Our excellent Music and Drama departments provide many opportunities for our children to perform before an audience and develop their confidence and self-esteem. Our superb Art and Technology departments enable our children to benefit from an all-round education. An extensive programme of extra-curricular activities after school, ranging from Rugby to Chess and Mandarin classes, enables children to develop their talents in all areas.
