Mayfield Speech Festival
On Tuesday 28th June, Mayfield held it’s annual Speech Festival. We were delighted to welcome our guest judge, Miss Slater, English and Drama Teacher at Queen Mary’s Grammar School, who had a difficult time deciding the winners.
Transition and Form I performed choral verses in the Lower School competition. Transition performed Andrea Shavik’s ‘Grandma was eaten by a shark!’ superbly with enthusiasm and dramatic actions. Form 1 performed Roger Stevens’ ‘The Monster That Ate The Universe!’ with eagerness. After an anxious wait, Miss Slater announced Transition had won the Preliminary Speech Cup, narrowly beating Form I. The cup is now displayed proudly on the mantelpiece in Transition’s form room.
The finalists from Lower II to Lower III had to perform a variety of poems and extracts from famous writers, such as William Shakespeare and the ever-popular Ken Nesbitt. The pupils all performed brilliantly in front of an eager audience and after some encouraging remarks about each performance, Miss Slater announced the following winners:
Junior Speech Cup – Anaisha (FII)
Senior Speech Cup – Samuel (LIII)
A huge well done to all the finalists and a massive thank you to Miss Mills for organising the event and to our guest judge Miss Slater.
